Standard VI: External Development Leadership

A school executive will design structures and process that result in community engagement, support, and ownership. Acknowledging that schools no longer reflect but, in fact, build community, the leader proactively creates with staff, opportunities for parents/guardians, community, and business representatives to participate as "stockholders" in the school such that continued investment of resources and good will are not left to chance.

Standard 6a: Parent and Community Involvement and Outreach

Proficient: Works with others to engage parents/guardians and all community stakeholders in a shared responsibility for student and school success reflecting the community's vision of the school.

Activities:

  • Participated in Belmont's Back-to-School "Fun Day" for all parents and community members
  • Worked with both the PTA and P.O.P.S (Parents of Positive Students) committees to discuss ways to increase parent involvement
  • Worked to help implement parent outreach activities to Creekside Housing Authority, including an additional Fall "Fun Day" and "Parent University" meetings
  • Wrote a grant on behalf of the PTA for a new playground at Belmont
  • Participated in Belmont's Parent Focus Group with RRGSD Superintendent Dr. Sawyer

Standard 6b: Federal, State and District Mandates

Proficient: Works with others to ensure compliance with federal, state, and district mandates; continually assesses the progress of district initiatives and reports results to district-level decision-makers; works with others to implement district initiatives directed at improving student achievement.

Activities:

  • Assisted in monitoring progress of SuccessMaker and Waterford implementation, as well as progress of students within each program
  • Assisted in creating schedule for SuccessMaker usage in grades 3-5
  • Worked with reading coaches and administrative team to monitor implementation and usage of DIBELS Next, and to resolve problems as needed
  • Participated as Belmont's administrative representative on the 2013-14 district Calendar Committee; worked to build the school calendar for 2013-14, adhere to legal requirements for both students and teachers, etc.
